Motorsport action returns in style at Hampton Downs
The best domestic motorsport series in New Zealand is back and packing a powerful punch with a full day of action at the Hampton Downs Motorsport Park on Saturday September with Speed Works 2020 season finale fired up and ready to thrill.
Five categories will take part in the single day format event, with each undertaking their usual format of an all-or-nothing qualifying session followed by three races. The Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship will crown its 2019-2020 season champion over the weekend and is expecting a field of 18 cars, one of which will be driven by arguably the best female racer the country has ever produced, former Indy Lights competitor Christina Orr-West.
Auckland's Peter Vodanovich leads the chase to the championship title and having already been signed up by Australian Racing team Erebus Motorsport, is aiming to go out on a high as he looks to make the next step up the motorsport career ladder
A champion will also be crowned in the RYCO 24.7 V8 Utes Championship and it's well known Kiwi racer and former gold star NZV8 champion Paul Manuell who holds all the aces with one round to go. Glen 'Coyote' Collinson is his nearest challenger in this classic Holden vs Ford battle, but the real winners are the fans, who will once again be able to enjoy the sight and sound of the big field of 420 horsepower monsters battle their way through the day.
The 'anything goes as long as it has four wheels' TradeZone GTRNZ category will run a consolidated single grid combining its GT1,GT2, GT3 and GT4 machinery, with the NEXEN Tyre Pro 7 Mazda Racing field also revved up to put on a show in one of the country's biggest one -make fields. Muscle cars are also on the agenda with an invitation field and Speed Works' popular afternoon Rush Hour mini enduro race completes the line-up.
