Richter City Roller Derby are excited to be getting back to the track. We’re bringing you two games in one night! We welcome Taranaki to play our Wellington team, and the league returns to its roots with a home game between the original Richter City teams — Smash Malice and Brutal Pageant.

Roller derby is an awesome night out for all ages. It’s a battle of strength and agility on wheels. It’s sport with a sense of humour. It’s impressive athleticism, deft skill, strategic teamwork, and a lot of fun to watch.

Enjoy the energy from the comfort of your seat. Grab a drink and some kai from Richter City’s supporting food trucks, and follow your favourite skaters around the track. Our Garage Project bar will be open for non-alcoholic options plus beer and wine. Alcohol will not be served to minors.

Doors open at 4pm
First game begins at 5pm
Exit and re-entry available
Door sales available.

Our friends Wellington Free Ambulance will be present, for those just-in-case moments.

To ensure the safety of our fans, the first 3 rows of the mat seating right next to the track is 18+ only. There is plenty of other seating, including tiered seating for full track views. Hot tip: Bring a cushion for extra comfort on the wooden terrace seats.

What is roller derby?

Roller derby is a full contact sport played on roller skates around an oval track.
Each team has players dedicated to offence and defence, working to help their point-scoring player get around the track faster and with less effort than the opposition in a time period of two minutes, maximum. Each team has four blockers and one jammer on the track at a time.

Jammers are the only players on the track who can score points. They score one point for each member of the opposition team they lap on the track, but only after they’ve made it through their first lap — no easy feat with the other team’s Blockers in their way.
Blockers work to make life difficult for the opposition Jammer, while creating an easy path to point-scoring for their own Jammer.

Confused? Come and watch — it makes sense when you see it!

— We are forever grateful to our sponsors. Thank you Garage Project, Te Aro Physiotherapy, Form Massage, Iko Iko, Aotearoller skate gear, and Rich Coffee Roasters: we love youse. —
