Paterangi Jerseys (Shaw Farms Paterangi)
NZ's oldest Jersey Cow farm, our story started in 1898 supplying the Paterangi cheese factory (we made butter for Queen Elizabeth the 1st). The farm milks 530 cows and features Delaval’s world- leading 50 bale rotary, which is 6 months old. The farm is very planet friendly, and 1000's of trees have been planted over last 50 years, as well as 6 QEII Trust native bush lands and 2 large dams surrounding the native bush. 10% of our farm is in trees or wetlands.
Our farm is kept to exceptional standards across the entire business. It is also the showcase farm for Ranged Free Cert TM (a future game changer for dairy / beef exports) - which is similar to organic, but certified pasture grazed 365 days a year. We enjoy sharing our farm and the NZ farming story, so come visit and see what we do!
Open Farms is proud to be sponsored by Beef + Lamb New Zealand, DairyNZ, the Our Land and Water National Science Challenge and Farmside Powered by Vodafone.
