John Paul Muir returns with a performance to celebrate the release his album - The Cornerstone Suite.
After it’s premier at the 2017 London Jazz Festival, John-Paul brings his Cornerstone Suite to New Zealand to celebrate the release of the record, available globally from November 28th on all digital platforms and limited release vinyl.
The Suite features his original compositions spanning the last 10 years that are brought together to make a complete work. Fusing his classical heritage with more recent explorations in jazz and improvisation, it charts a personal musical journey.
John-Paul Muir has established himself as one of the finest pianists to emerge from New Zealand in recent years, and certainly one of the most versatile; equally at home in both classical, jazz, and contemporary genres.
In 2010, having received top honours in all of New Zealand’s major music competitions, he graduated from the University of Auckland with a Master of Music degree and moved to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He has since graduated with distinction from their Artist Masters Programme and is currently enjoying a freelance career based in London.
John-Paul is the Senior Programme Manager of the Bloomsbury Festival, an annual 10 day arts festival held in October featuring over one hundred events across Bloomsbury. He has established a weekly jazz night in Bloomsbury at Goodenough College, where his regular appearances feature an ever-evolving roster of guest musicians from the UK jazz scene and beyond. His latest project featuring original compositions and improvisations, the Cornerstone Suite, is due to be released in November 2019.
