The Wakatipu Basin was once blanketed in a mixture of native shrubland and forest. The Wakatipu Reforestation Trust is committed to the vision of bringing back these native species to the Wakatipu.
This year's Conservation Week theme ‘Nature Needs Us’ is all about what each and every one of us can do to be conservationists in our day to day lives to give Nature the help it needs. A planting day is a great way of getting out to do your bit in nature, have great conversation with like minded people and enjoy nature for the morning.
Make your way to Whitechapel Reserve, just down from the turnoff to the Crown Range. There is ample parking on site, and it's kid friendly.
The trust has 1,100 plants to get in the ground and many hands make light work, so bring your friends and family along. This activity is suitable for any age and fitness level. Please bring suitable footwear for gardening, a shovel or spade if you've got one and a pair of gloves.
