Come down to the courtyard at Māngere Arts Centre and see what you can see. It’s new and it’s fun, it’s bright like the sun… it’s Rainbow Machine and it’s for everyone!
In a unique blend of science, design, innovation, art and engineering, Auckland’s Rainbow Machine is at Ngā Tohu o Uenuku until the end of summer.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the bright yellow, interactive artwork, designed by artists Shahriar Asdollah-Zadeh, Patrick Loo and Sarosh Mulla.
Scientists from Callaghan Innovation gave their expertise to create the optical cone, which houses custom-made lenses to refract light. These were built using innovative technology and fabricated by the local team at Ōtāhuhu Engineering.
Open Daily Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
Instructions for use:
- Guide the yellow cone so it points towards the sun.
- Turn the small wheel to move the cone from side to side.
- Turn the big wheel to move the cone up and down.
- Look inside the cone to see beautiful rainbows.
- Take a selfie!
