In the heat of Mia’s imminent wedding and unsure how to live with the death of her brother, Mia is coaxed together with her whānau for the first time in years. In what had been the bright home of her childhood, Mia and her family are stuck in a purgatory-like state.
Breathless, named after the panicked state of grief, is about a family’s rickety journey towards healing. Described as ‘a dynamic and compelling portrait of a family in transition’, Breathless formed part of Courtney’s Masters at the International Institute of Modern Letters in 2017. The script won Playmarket’s Playwrights b425 competition in 2019, and Courtney is excited to be breathing new life into this story with Circa Theatre.
Featuring: Emma Katene, Janaye Henry, Stevie Hancox-Monk, Heather O’Carroll,Fergus Aitken, Sepelini Mua’au and Shay Tanirau.
