This is a fundraising concert for the earthquake strengthening of St John's in the city Presbyterian Church with Lala Simpson.
Lala Simpson is a singer and community music educator hailing from the exotic Island of Madagascar. She speaks 3 languages fluently including French. Her love of French chansons started when she was a young girl and listening to RFI (Radio France International) at night with her parents.
She saw an old black and white movie of Edith Piaf on TV when she was a teenager and felt really moved by her story and her songs.
Lala's rendition of Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel songs has been given very positive and emotional reception from audiences around New Zealand.
She has performed at events such as CubaDupa, Futuna Chapel summer series and Fete de la Musique in Wellington.
Most of the songs in this concert will be sung in French as they were originally written. So come and experience the songs of Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel as performed by a very expressive and talented singer who with her mastery of the French language sings with emotion and connects with the audience. Lala will be accompanied by Dayle Anderson on the piano, Richard Hardie on double bass and Jonathan Berkahn on the accordion.
