At the heart of the Games are a series of traditional sports attracting top competitors battling for the prestigious New Zealand Rural Games titles. We'll host the STIHL Timbersports Championship, the Sir Eion Edgar Southern Hemisphere Highlander Champion, Sam Strahan Memorial Sheep Dog Trials, New Zealand Speed Tree Climbing, New Zealand Gumboot Throwing Championship, New Zealand Speed Shearing Championships, Youth shearing, Man and Mutt race, plus heaps more.
Kids' n Country features a host of fun events over Saturday and Sunday to keep under 12s active and entertained. From haybale races and tug-o-war to tree climbing, digger driving and miniature pony sulky rides.
There will be heaps of fun thanks to Fonterra Have a Go opportunities like gumboot throwing, egg throwing, coal shovelling and cowpat tossing!
At the Games, there'll be an array of delicious local food offerings and exhibition sites showcasing all that's great about rural life.
