Enter a beautiful world of evocative soundscapes...
This evening is not a Sound Journey. You're invited to sit and watch the performance with eyes wide open.
Sika is a Sound Artist based in New Zealand, renowned for his innovative use of ancient instruments. He has released 11 solo albums since his debut in 1990 and performed sold-out shows around the world. He regularly plays at Glastonbury Festival, The World Yoga Festival, the Green Gathering and many more.
An extraordinary multi-instrumentalist, Sika is known for drumming powerful rhythms while playing didgeridoo. He loops and builds textural layers of sound using voice and breath, adding the haunting voices of Māori Taonga pūoro and soaring native flutes. Sika also mixes nature recordings with foraged natural objects like leaves, bone, shell and stone.
His music tells stories and depicts landscapes. It speaks of old relationships with trees, rocks and elemental spirits.
Sika's devotion to living a path that merges nature's wisdom with contemporary culture, gives him an authentic and unique presence in this emerging genre. His work reflects a lifetime of listening to the rhythms of nature.
