This Eco Dye Retreat is a fantastic opportunity to explore the art of eco dyeing in the setting Waihōanga River Lodge.
Over the weekend we will go for walks through the native bush to collect leaves for our dye bundles. You will learn how to prepare and mordant fabrics for eco dyeing, including cottons and linens. We will use a variety of fabrics and mordants to explore the potential and possibilities of colour released from leaves. Down by the river where we will open our bundles revealing the magic of eco dyeing and rinse our fabrics in the fresh water of the river.
The retreat is suitable for beginners but also for those who already have put their hands on eco dyeing and want to further explore the use of mordants on a variety of different types of fabrics.
Our weekend begins with dinner at 6 pm on the Friday night and finishes after lunch on Sunday at 2 pm.
The Waihōanga River Lodge and Retreat is the ideal place to explore the potential of natural dyes, get creative, reconnect with nature in a relaxed and friendly environment. There will be time to relax in the gardens or go for a dip in the river.
This retreat is catered with delicious vegetarian food, using fresh and local produce.
Cost of $490 includes:
- bunk style accommodation with linen
- vegetarian breakfast, lunch and dinner
- all materials tools and mordants for eco dyeing
You are welcome to bring your own small amount of silk and wool fabrics to test.
