The Great Waipapa Rotary Annual Book Fair – Nov 1 & 2
For over ten years the members of the Waipapa Rotary Club have run what has now become a very popular annual event.
Members of the public generously donate all kinds of books by leaving them at appropriate “drop-off” locations so that Rotary Members can collect and store them for sorting into their various categories. People wishing to donate books can ring the contact number on our roadside banners to be given their nearest “drop-off” point.
Apart from thousands of “fiction” stories it is surprising how other categories fill with very good books to recycle. Cooking and gardening books are available in good numbers as are travel books and sports publications and children’s books. There is usually a book to suit every person and every preference.
Books are sorted by Rotary Club members beforehand so that the “non-descript”, the dilapidated, and the now unwanted encyclopaedias are separated prior to the Grand Opening on Friday 5th August at 12.00PM.
This is, as always, a charity event which raises much need cash to fund various projects undertaken by Waipapa Rotary. These include:
- Supporting youth educational opportunities
- Sending emergency food and shelter packs to help with disaster relief both locally and overseas
- Arranging and judging school speech competitions
- Donating cash for benevolent situations
- Manufacturing and installing “park benches” on DOC walking tracks.
Your attendance at the fair on either Friday 1 or Saturday 2 Nov will help to ensure that this years “event” will be another outstanding success.
