Join a journey to the Wildside of Banks Peninsula, step back in time and discover what New Zealand use to look like and make your mark in our newly established reserve “Mable Hope Reserve”.
Get inspired, connect with the natural world, understand how it works and how we can preserve it for future generations.
Start in Akaroa and jump in our 4WD mini bus to Pohatu bay with breathtaking views of Akaroa extinct volcano along the way.
Learn all about our history in this remarkable place and what New Zealand was like before the arrival of man. We will guide you on a short walk down on a bush walk through ancient forest with 400-year-old red beach trees and immense tree ferns in order to see what we want to accomplish in other areas of Pohatu.
Visit Pohatu sheep farm and Penguin colony where their award-winning work on Balancing conservation with farming has proven incredibly successful and helped to inspire the Wildside project.
See our penguin conservation program in action as we guide you around our penguin habitat and monitor nesting sites sharing what is involved in protecting penguins on the mainland.
Finally, it is time to make your mark by planting your own native tree. This will help the regeneration of our forest and ensure the future of our unique biodiversity from the smallest insects to our beautiful native birds.
Seats available are limited so book yours today.
Note that the tour requires a minimum level of fitness.
