This is our 20th year and we want to thank everyone who has ever come along to the marathons over the year. You are such an amazing crowd of devoted movie lovers.
But for those who have never experienced a movie marathon this is it in a nutshell.
Each year we have one night in New Zealand that is devoted to serious movie lovers. Your bog standard couch potatoes need not apply. We are talking the Mt Freaking Everest of movie-viewing experiences. For twenty four non-stop hours we show cine-dementia. It's a mix of retro titles (classic to trash) and new sneak NZ premieres.
The event is rated R18. The films can range from G through to R18.
We also want to alert new marathon folks that because many of the films we celebrate are from bygone eras - the attitudes and social mores of those films aren't censored for today's enlightened audiences - and will be presented to contemporary audiences in all their possibly problematic original form. The bottom line - if you're easily upset, then this might not be for you. We want everyone to have fun but we also think it's important that the 'thon is treated like a time capsule of how cinema was then and is now.
