Have you seen a kiwi in the wild? We are offering a unique experience to be part of a kiwi release - into Maungatautari's native bush. We are releasing 500 kiwi over five years as part of a partnership with Kiwis for kiwi.
Duration to be up to two hours (dependent on release site) Includes:
- demonstration of kiwi monitoring
- find out about the role of Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari as a kōhanga kiwi in kiwi conservation
- walk into Te Tui a Tane Southern Enclosure
- guided tour
- walk to kiwi release site
Limited spaces available. A moderate level of fitness is required. Special terms and conditions apply.
*Bookings need to be made at least 76 hours in advance and are subject to availability and weather conditions.
*Children up to 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Sanctuary Mountain® reserves the right to cancel or postpone a Kiwi Experience as a result of health & safety concerns, weather conditions or unforeseen event or circumstance.
The welfare of the kiwi is paramount. The kiwi will only be handled by our accredited kiwi handler(s) and Kiwi Experience participants must follow the instructions of Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari staff at all times.
By booking space/s on a Kiwi Experience you are agreeing to abide by these terms and conditions.
Due to the special nature of the Sanctuary Mountain® Kiwi Experience cancellations must be made by phone to the Sanctuary Mountain visitor centre reception at least 76 hours ahead of the booked experience.
Cancellations made within 76 hours of the booked experience occurring are 100% non-refundable.
Cancellations made prior to 76 hours of the booked experience occurring are refundable but customers will be charged a $20 administration fee.
In the case of a cancellation where a refund is allowed – the refund will be made to the card used in the original transaction method.
Cancellations or changes By Sanctuary Mountain:
In the event that the Kiwi Experience is cancelled by Sanctuary Mountain® prior to the commencement of the booked experience you will be given the option of a future postponement date if available or 100% refund of your purchase.
In the event that your experience is cancelled by Sanctuary Mountain® during the experience as a result of health & safety concerns, weather conditions or unforeseen event you will be given the option to either receive a 50% refund of the booked experience or a voucher to book one of our regular guided tours.
