Māwhitiwhiti activates Te Toi Whatu Kākahu, Māori cloak weaving, in a contemporary gallery setting. Artist Arapeta Ashton will be running four free, drop-in, fibre-weaving workshops for all ages and abilities that will culminate in an exhibition at Te Tuhi. These workshops will weave together values of kaitiakitanga, whakawhanaungatanga and manaakitanga bringing visitors kanohi ki te kanohi, face to face, with this beautiful art form.
This event is part of Matariki Festival 2019. Supported by Creative Communities.
