Kořeny (Roots in Czech) is an intimate multi-disciplinary acoustic performance celebrating the timeless and universal wisdom of Slavic folk music through storytelling, poetry and song.
Multi-instrumentalist Jonáš Koukl and author Catherine Cooper weave together personal and historical narratives and English translations of traditional Czech lyrics in their performance of songs that are dear to the Czech and Slovakian people but resonate through time and across borders. These songs are interpreted through poetic translation, stories of personal, political and historical significance, a variety of Slavic and international instruments, and two voices in harmony.
Venue is the Wesley Wing, Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History.
Please note: the actual running time of this event is 90 mins.
