Cantorum presents a concert of 'Anniversaries and Favourites'. Let us explain. We commemorate the 350th birthday of Henry Purcell (the great composer who was the last to make a definite mark on English music before the Edwardian period); 150 years since Berlioz died, and the death of Joubert earlier this year.
The “favourites” can be described as having been requested by the choristers; while each piece has been nominated there were often multiple endorsements to each choice. Gluing the concert together will be Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli (also a unanimous choice piece).
The instrumental interludes will be provided by Marika Balzat and Amy Cottingham who are renowned for exciting, entertaining playing.
