Ben Waters returns to his favourite place in all the world - Akaroa - his words not ours!
It is fitting as Akaroa was the place where Ben first performed in NZ several years ago, with his prodigiously talented young son Tom nearly stealing the show.
This time, at Ben’s request, he will be appearing solo without any backing, so the entire evening will be BEN.
Those of you who have been fortunate enough to have heard and seen Ben perform before need no introduction to his amazing showmanship and his concerts are always a testament to originality and a lot of fun especially with anecdotes to go with the music.
Several years ago Ben was crowned ‘best boogie and rock’n roll pianist in Europe’ and since then he has gone on to even greater heights, having just completed a wildly successful group of concerts in UK playing with his old friend Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, who for good measure brought along his old mate Rod Stewart.
When others including Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp were added to the scene together with Tom Waters, that was a quite fantastic line up performing at the likes of London’s prestigious Ronnie Scott’s Club in Soho.
For this concert in Akaroa, Ben has selected his beloved venue the Akaroa Yacht Club, as the intimacy afforded by its compact layout suits his easy and crowd-engaging style.
It also means very restricted numbers of tickets can be sold due to capacity constraints of fewer than 100 people.
It goes without saying, given Ben’s stellar status in the world of boogie, blues and rock’n roll, that tickets will sell out very fast indeed as they have done for every previous performance Ben has given, and he is much better known now than he was on his first visit to NZ.
You are urged to buy your tickets without delay.
Sadly this will be Ben’s swan song.
He has decided to retire from active performances (partly to permit a better lifestyle than 240 performance per year can allow). Jools Holland tells him that the 40 per year he now restricts himself to is quite enough, but Ben is adamant he wants to lose some weight and change his lifestyle altogether, so this is the last public gig ever he will perform in NZ
So if you want to see one of the legends of music who has played with musical royalty all over - from the Rolling Stones, to Ray Davies of the Kinks, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Nevill Bros, and so many more, this will be your last opportunity.
Tickets are priced at $100 of which $50 goes to support the rebuild of Akaroa’s Health Centre - Ben is always keen to perform to support such good causes.
Due to the constraints of the venue, there will be NO guaranteed seats available, and the very few which exist will be on first come first served basis.
This will be a genuine gig and dancing/rock’n rolling will be the order of the occasion!
A full cash bar will operate on the night and there will be complimentary bar snacks served throughout the evening.
Doors open at 7pm and gig starts at 8pm
