The Auckland Youth Orchestra, conducted by Antun Poljanich, presents:
Strauss: Horn Concerto No.1 Soloist: Henry Close
Mouquet: La Flute de Pan Soloist: Jacob Webster
Prokofiev: Symphony No. 7
Prokofiev's seventh and final symphony is a look back over the composer's life with superbly-orchestrated melodious themes reminiscent of his childhood years. AYO is thrilled to have the opportunity to perform it here.
The two concerti are performed by AYO players: Jacob Webster won the 2018 AYO Soloist Competition performing Mouquet's work for flute with beauty and poignancy. Henry Close won an 'Outstanding Performance' award at the same competition with his elegant performance of Richard Strauss' first horn concerto, a work which reveals Strauss' love of the instrument.
AYO is a full symphony orchestra comprised of 75 of Auckland's most talented young musicians (ages 14-24). AYO toured to Germany and Slovenia last year, receiving standing ovations from capacity audiences at their six performances - don't miss this experience!
The expenses of this free concert are significant and donations will be gratefully received at the conclusion of the concert.
