In homage to the German monks of old and their winter beer traditions, Okere Falls Store Strong Beer Fest is back with a bang this Queen's Birthday weekend.
We have four days of beer, bonfires, hamburgers (get it? from Hamburg!) and pumping live music lined up, so prepare for a party at our place.
We're indulging in the 17th century German tradition called 'Strong Beer Season', which is admitting that it's too cold for summer brews and celebrating hearty, dark, malty beers. Kicking us off is Behemoth Brewing who are hosting a beer tasting on the Wednesday evening, covering a range of classic, modern and specialty beers paired with gourmet treats from our chef.
On the subject of food and beer pairings, on Thursday we will have a Burger & Beer evening. A range of burger options will be on the menu, each crafted by our crew of chefs and food gurus to be delicious in its own right and spectacular with its accompanying beer.
On Friday we open the doors to all our locals and neighbours on our Local's Night, beer flowing, a hearty dinner menu and Michael Barker on the stage for a jam session.
Saturday night is a ticketed event with live music from 4pm. First on the stage we have local star Liam Jolly with a smooth guitar and unbelievable vocals before we invite our new guests to the store - Nimbus from Mt Maunganui playing the favourite tunes we've heard before, in their own punchy and enchanting style. Headlining the evening are the fantastic White Chapel Jak! Hardly needing an introduction, this band is taking over the world with their engaging and irresistible energy.
Each evening will have a roaring bonfire, a range of specialty beers as well as our tap classics, fantastic food and the very best of company - we look forward to seeing you there!
