Join likeminded chilli heads for the only event of its kind, the NZ Hot Sauce Festival. The third annual event is back and packing more punch than ever, with unique events now set over two days.
On Saturday 26th May, festival-goers can take part in the popular homemade hot sauce competition, and witness the NZ Chilli Eating Championship Finals, where contestants will encounter the world’s hottest chilli, the Carolina Reaper.
On Sunday 27th May, things heat up in the Chilli Chompers Global Hot Sauce awards, and NZ’s first large scale world record chilli eating attempts for the Guinness Book of Records.
Over both days, you can enjoy take-home purchase of all hot sauces at the festival, including access to six World Hot Sauce Award Champion winning sauces, alongside fiery cocktails and a spicy smokehouse food menu created especially for the festival.
When your taste buds need a break, Sweat Shop’s brewed on-site craft beer will provide welcome relief, with their IPA and pale ale touted as the best beer matches for the heat of a chilli.
NZ’s top hot sauce producers will showcase hundreds of hot sauces, with producers including;
• Fire Dragon Chillies (Northland)
• Wild West Worcester (Northland)
• Mex U Crazy (Auckland)
• Jolokia Farm (Auckland)
• Gringo Killer (Auckland)
• Alderson’s (Auckland)
• Culley’s (Auckland)
• Fire and Dynamite (Taupo)
• Cook and Nelson (Wellington)
• Baxter’s Original Sauces (Wellington)
• Sambal of the Gods (Tauranga)
• Ngapuhi Rd (Kerikeri)
• International Foods (Hamilton)
• Franks Red Hot (USA)
For all the chilli heads out there, a homemade hot sauce competition will be judged by NZ’s hot sauce producers, with gold taking away prizes from Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen and Fire Dragon Chillies, and of course bragging rights.
