Our July programme starts with Open Mic as usual. From about 5 we present our guest performers - first it's Beantown, a group comprising Celia McAlpine, Max McAlpine and Lewis Ellison. These talented musicians perform across a number of genres, so we'll have to wait and see what they bring us!
Then we have our guest poet, Rachel McAlpine. As she says, writing is her vocation and profession, and that dedication has been rewarded with many honours over a long career. Among her catalogue are 13 poetry books.
For our programme, Rachel will read from 'Elsie’s Little Book Of Strategies', with tips from a 6-year-old life coach on how to kill zombies, how to be cool, how stop breathing, and how to recognise the god of mud. She will also read heart-felt poems distilled from the stories of Wellington people in Te Ha Tangata, a human library on homelessness.
