Alberton is a beautiful 1863 timber mansion with Indian influenced turrets in Mt Albert, run by Heritage New Zealand. It has tranquil grounds recalling the setting of a quaint country farm with flowerbeds, a vegetable patch, chicken coop and lots of sunny grassy areas.
Come along to experience our Sunday market in the garden featuring specialty produce and handmade items with music, garden workshops, artisan food stalls and a pop-up tearoom! Its the FINAL market of the season.
As well as seasonal fruit here will be homemade preserves, pickles, chutneys, kraut and jams, honey, deli products, cured meats, artisan cheeses, boutique olive oil, nuts and nut butters, tea, chocolate, sweet treats and coffee. Local makers will be selling unique handcrafted goods such as jewellery, candles, homewares, kids clothes, soap, beauty products and other trinkets.
Street food stalls offering a tempting array of options for brunch or lunch include: Kraken Crumpets, Empanadas"Sabores", Vege Bang Bang, CheLucio BBQ, Salato, Grownup Donuts with a small offering from Cazador who will be popping up as a deli. Alberton's volunteers will be serving tea and light English scones with cream and jam. From the vintage china of course!
In two free mini-workshops at 11am and 12:30 the Compost Collective will present an introduction to traditional composting, worm farms and bokashi. Come discover what suits you best and get $40 off the system of your choice when you register on the day or in advance.
NZ Gardener magazine editor-at-large Lynda Hallinan will be on site answering all your gardening questions and signing copies of her new book 'Damson: from Hedgrow to Harvest'.
There will be live music, children's activities, balloon twisting and face-painting fairies! As with every market a HUGE hamper of goodies donated to by the stallholders up for grabs every month. Make any purchase to be in to win. Entry to view the house is discounted at $8 for adults (usually $10) and free for children under 18 years.
Bring the kids and the dog and enjoy the beautiful heritage setting of the garden. Shop small and local, direct from the growers, craftspeople and small independent businesses.
