This is an advanced course designed for the Yogini who has completed at least one Yin Foundation Module with Joe Barnett or an equivalent introductory training to the Grilley Model of Yin Yoga (14 Skeletal Segments, 10 Muscle Groups, 7 Archetypes).
This module (Yin/Yang Yoga: The Energy Curve) compares, contrasts, and integrates the Yin and Yang efforts in this Taoist approach developed by Paul Grilley. We begin with an introduction to the Yang sequences developed by Paul and Suzee Grilley; as well as a review of the Yin Foundations through a deep, quiet practice of surrender.
We then move to the study of upper body anatomy including fun memorization techniques to understand the flow of tissue through the upper extremities. Throughout the study, we experiment with many Yin/Yang options, discuss the potential benefits and challenges for different individual needs, and naturally feel and compare the results in “the rebound”.
Should the practice begin uplifting and fiery, only to gradually cool down to the earth? Or should it begin with efforts to sink into gravity only to finish by soaring with Dragon wings? Even a “pure” Yin practice includes the subtle Yang efforts needed to gently shake off the previous pose and prepare for the next.
The transition from one energetic effort to the next is the most fundamental consideration when developing a sequence.
