A fantastic free day out for the entire family, experience the bright and exciting cultures that make up our diverse city. See a huge variety of world class and local performers, and treat yourself to the delicious ethnic food on offer.

RSVP, share and invite friends and family through our Facebook page. We'll be announcing acts and more exciting details on there as they are finalised.

The Grand Opening starts at 11am, officiated by Wellington's Mayor Justin Lester, and other dignitaries. Followed by local and international artists taking the stage; including world class modern fusion dancers flown from Malaysia, traditional and modern ethnic dance groups, choirs, Kapa Haka, old favourites such as Batucada and top local acts.

A selection of ethnic food will be available, so bring cash and an empty stomach.

The event is run by Multicultural Federation of New Zealand and Multicultural Council of Wellington, with key partners; Wellington City Council, the Human Rights Commission, NZ Police, Office of Ethnic Communities, and Ministry of Social Development.

“The event contributes two of our strategic priorities: Creativity - celebrating the diverse arts and culture of New Zealand; and Diversity - encompassing different people, perspectives and their contribution.” Tayo Agunlejika, Executive Director, New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils.

The event is in conjunction with the anti-racism campaign #thatsus currently being run by the Human Rights Commission.
