Designed for teachers of English and Drama from secondary to tertiary level, this workshop focuses on directing the Shakespearean theatre form. Miles Gregory, director of the critically-acclaimed Henry V currently playing in this year's season at Pop-up Globe, will explore sections of text in detail, unlocking Shakespeare's intentions and using Elizabethan original practice staging techniques to bring the text to life. This workshop brings together textual work with simple and effective performance techniques that demonstrate the 'Shock of the Old' - the incredible power of Shakespeare's text when performed using the same techniques used by Shakespeare's own company four hundred years ago. These include work on cue scripts, verse and prose, formal and informal address, direct audience address, public and private dialogue and Elizabethan mise en scene.

Miles Gregory is the Artistic Director and Founder of Pop-up Globe. He has directed some thirty professional productions of Shakespeare around the world including seasons in London's West End, UK national tours and site-specific productions. Last year he directed the hugely successful production of Twelfth Night for Pop-up Globe. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Staging Shakespeare from Exeter University (UK) and a PhD in contemporary Shakespearean performance from Bristol University (UK).

Please book promptly to ensure your place as workshop size is limited to 12 participants.
