This is a public wine tasting to be held after a closed industry symposium. Ticket holders will taste approximately 24 top Kiwi Syrah served by the winemakers and winery representatives. Wines for tasting will include highlights such as Craggy Range Le Sol, Trinity Hill Homage, Dry River Syrah, Bilancia La Collina and many more.
New Zealand is on the map for Syrah wines. As the world drinks more European styles, even Aussie producers are jealous of our cooler climate. Aromatic and bright yet powerful and dense, our Syrah is giving the French classics a competition that they never got from hotter climate Aussie Shiraz.
After a few short decades, we have both established legends and relative newcomers, but our leaders are making some of the best Syrah in the world. And here at Caro’s we’re pleased to be hosting an industry symposium so these future legends can get their heads together.
But we couldn't let them all fly home without indulging us. So after the day's proceedings, wineries will stay on to show their wares to ticket-holding customers. The tasting will be an informal drop-in event (following the private symposium), but the wines open will be some of our most serious Syrahs.
The stellar list of wineries and wines planned for tasting are: Craggy Range (Le Sol 2014 and 2015 vintages), Dry River (Syrah 2008 and 2013), Trinity Hill (Homage 2015, Gimblett Gravels 2016), Bilancia (La Collina 2010 and 2015), Fromm (Fromm Vineyard 2015, La Strada 2015), Elephant Hill (2014 Airavata 2014, Estate Syrah 2015), Man O’ War (Bellerophon 2014, Dreadnought 2014) , Greystone (Syrah 2015), Villa Maria (Reserve 2014, Cellar Selection 2015), Hawkes Bay Wine Co./Rod McDonald (Trademark 2013 and Quarter Acre), Craft Farm/Ant McKenzie (Theory and Practice 2015, Craft Farm 2015), Ash Ridge (Reserve 2015, Premium 2015), and Goldie (Reserve 2013, Estate 2015).
