Proudly presented by the Embassy of Japan in New Zealand and the Japan Foundation, the Japanese Film Festival is coming to Wellington once again! Due to the festival’s popularity, it will again take place at Paramount Cinema, with plenty of space for the whole family!

In order to attend, please print out or download your free tickets from Eventfinda, and bring them along for entry to the theatre from 10:30 am. All movies are preceded by a short documentary about Japanese culture, starting 10 minutes prior to the film’s screening. Seating is not allocated, so come early to secure your favourite spot!

Tickets will be available until 2 hours before the start of the film. After this, you will not be able to register online, but door entry will be available from 10:50 am if there is space in the theatre.

The Japanese Film Festival 2017 offers entertainment with a mixture of drama, action and comedy that will inspire and engage those seeking to broaden their cultural horizons. All movies are free admission, so spread the word and bring along your friends and family! Please register and print or download your free tickets by using Eventfinda’s registration system!

Chihaya (Suzu Hirose), Taichi (Shuhei Nomura) and Arata (Mackenyu) are childhood friends, bound by their passion for “competitive karuta” (karuta: traditional Japanese playing cards.) They part ways after graduating from elementary school, but Chihaya continues to play the game that Arata taught her, in the hopes of one day showing him how strong a player she has become.

Chihaya and Taichi are reunited in high school, and together, they try to form a “competitive karuta club” to compete in the national championship. Chihaya believes that if they make it to the Nationals, they may see Arata again. Despite knowing how Chihaya feels about Arata, Taichi joins the club for her…
