Come and visit the Cape to City/Poutiri Ao ō Tane/Cape Sanctuary Shed at the Hawke’s Bay A & P Show. There are plenty of fun activities to keep the kids entertained while you learn about these exciting large scale restoration projects in Hawke’s Bay.
The vision - native species thrive where we live, work and play, is all about bringing native species back into the lives of people, both in an urban or rural setting. See how better integration between public and private restoration efforts can make a difference to New Zealand’s biodiversity.
These multi stakeholder projects aim to integrate biodiversity restoration into business as usual primary production landscapes in ways that deliver economic, social and environmental benefits. Producing cutting edge research and innovation for wide scale predator control and biodiversity gains on private land, with the goal of making predator control cost effective and efficient on a large scale. These projects will ultimately provide a template for other areas of NZ.
The Cape Sanctuary, a privately funded restoration project, and Cape to City are working in partnership. Wide scale predator control operating in the Cape to the City footprint will allow the many native species increasing within the Cape Sanctuary’s predator proof fence to fly over the fence and live and increase in the wider landscape, including coming back to urban areas.
While you are there visit the Department of Conservation’s bivouc and learn about some of the recreation opportunities in Hawke’s Bay. Displays from Fish & Game New Zealand and the Environment Centre HB will also be on show.
