Come along and join Resonance Ensemble and the Christchurch School of Music Kidsfest Orchestra, conducted by local composer/conductor Philip Norman, for a fun-filled concert for primary-aged students that will star Perky the Pukeko and lots of his animal friends. This concert will be a lively introduction to the instruments of the orchestra through music and storytelling. Children are invited to dress up as their favourite animal - put on those onesies, animal hats and costumes and join in the fun.
The music to Perky the Pukeko has been specially written by local composer and violinist, Cathy Irons who has taken the much-loved story by Michelle Osment and turned it into a musical work. Narrated by Blair McHugh it promises to engage and delight our young audiences for many years to come.
Margaret Mahy's Lion in the Meadow, composed by Philip Norman will also be performed, alongside excerpts from Carnival of the Animals, Swan Lake and the Firebird Suite.
Prior to the concert families can attend a creative workshop (1-2.15pm) where the children will make animal masks and props which will be integrated into the performance. There is a limit of 25 children for the workshop so book early.
Following the concert, families can stay for a question and answer session with two of our composer/performers Philip Norman and Cathy Irons.
Concert $10 adults, $5 children
Workshop $5 children (must be accompanied by an adult)
