This special concert, by the Wellington Jazz Club, is to honour Rodger Fox for his outstanding contribution to Jazz in New Zealand over the past 40 years.
The very best musicians and vocalists who have played with Rodger Fox over the past 40 years will be performing with his big band, the Wellington Jazz Orchestra, including Brian Smith on sax, Mike Booth on trumpet, Midge Marsden, and vocalists Ray Woolfe, Dave Feehan and Erna Ferry.
The big band will play “Kings of Swing- From Then to Now with Rodger Fox and Friends” featuring the music of Glen Miller, Count Bassie, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw and Buddy Rich, playing some of these numbers - Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood, April in Paris, Woodchoppers Ball, One O’Clock Jump, Tuxedo Junction, Getting Sentimental Over You, Fever, Why Don’t You Do it Right, Cute and Tuxedo Junction.
Big band jazz music in New Zealand and Rodger Fox are synonymous. As a trombonist, big band leader, jazz educator, arranger and producer, Rodger has promoted big band music since he set up his own band in 1973.
