Expect an unexpected celebration.
Lunar New Year is a time for celebration and to extend the success of past ASB LunarFests, World TV is hosting the festival again at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre.
This spectacular event will be an extravaganza of traditional performances, pop music, children’s entertainment, a magic show, oriental food stalls and traditional arts and crafts. New Zealand Chinese beauty queens and singing idols will also perform at the event.
One of the highlights of the programme will be a ‘BianLian’ performance, a dramatic art which literally means ‘face-changing’. Other highlights will include ‘Gangnam-style’ dancing, traditional Chinese acrobatics and a performance by magician, Andre Vegas, a finalist in New Zealand’s Got Talent.
Among VIP guests attending the event, organised by World TV, TV9 and Radio9, will be senior government officials and representatives from the Chinese, Japanese and Korean Consulates. World TV Chief Executive, Henry Ho, says the ASB LunarFest 2013 is a highlight in the calendar for Chinese, Koreans and Japanese living in New Zealand, but will also appeal to all Kiwis who are interested in Asian culture and want to join in this exciting celebration.
The climax of the festivities will be the ceremony attended by the high-profile VIP's commencing at 8pm. The Lunar New Year celebration concludes at 10pm with a fireworks display symbolising the expulsion of all mishaps in 2012 and the ushering in of good fortune in the Year of the Snake.
