Rutter's Gloria is a contemporary work drawn from the ancient ecclesiastical Latin text which is exalted, devotional and jubilant by turns. The work is divided into three movements roughly corresponding to traditional symphonic structure. The Armed Man was commissioned to mark the new millennium with a message to put aside the old century with all its conflicts and look forward with hope for future peace. Since its premiere in 2000 the work has made an amazing impact on all who hear it.
