Let’s get ready to kick off the trekking season with Waara Trekking’s annual Orautoha Valley Trek with Mellonsfolly Ranch or as we know it, The Cowboy Town.
Join the crew for yet again another ‘Extreme’ ride through the majestic yet rugged terrain of the Ruatiti Valley where we will lunch at the Cowboy Town with the beautiful Miss Maggie and the very entertaining Sherriff Black Pete. Sit and relax in or outside the Saloon enjoying an ice cold beer or sarsaparilla after a typical cowboy style lunch (refreshments at your own cost). From there we will head home through the beautifully almost untouched native bush where you will be introduced to the world famous ‘Slide’ and the stunning views of the mountains of the Central Plateau, and even Mount Taranaki on a clear day.
The second day will be more of a relaxing ride for both horse and rider but by no means boring or less scenic than the first day. We will end the day around 12 pm with a farewell lunch before you set off on your journey home.
We cannot stress enough that your horses need to be super fit to handle the mountainous terrain. Please carry electrolytes with you at all times, you never know when you or your horse may need them.
We welcome barefoot horses, shoes are not compulsory. Your horse is your responsibility.
Children are welcome on the ride with the supervision of the parent/guardian only. Children are the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian.
