Be part of the magic this Christmas.
It reaches seven storeys high, attracts over 150,000 visitors each year in Auckland and Wellington, and is made up of 375,000 twinkling lights. For the very first time, a Telecom Christmas Tree will light up Christchurch’s summer skies for all to see.
In the spirit of Christmas, everyone is encouraged to bring a gift, large or small, to the Tree for children in need. The gifts collected around the tree will be delivered to children in Christchurch who have had it particularly tough in recent times. The Telecom Foundation is the umbrella organisation for all Telecom’s community and charitable giving, with a focus on giving Kiwi kids a better future.
Santa will be on call too, with the much-loved tradition of Telecom’s Santaline coming back to capture all Cantabrian kids’ wishlists for 2011. Telephone boxes to ring the North Pole will be set up at the Tree, but the national 0800 number opens from November 25th. 0800 222 222.
Other Trees will also be placed in Auckland and Wellington, with each Tree linked to the others via fibre, enabling anyone visiting the Telecom Tree website to design a light sequence, and watch it play live on a Tree.
Chirstchurch’s Tree will play host to a spectacular lightshow from dusk until dawn and be open all day, every day, until Boxing Day when the lights will switch off again for another year.
The Telecom Christmas Tree is a truly magical place, where many go for reflection and peace - a special pause in what is a very busy time of year!
